VIRGINIA JOBS INVESTMENT PROGRAM

One of the programs offering workforce development assistance to businesses in Virginia is the Virginia Department of Business Assistance’s Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP). VJIP is an economic development incentive supporting the creation of new jobs throughout the Commonwealth. Qualifying businesses are provided customized training and recruiting programs through consulting, delivered services, and funding to reduce the upfront costs of recruiting and training. This 41 year old program continues with strong support from the Governor and the Virginia General Assembly, which demonstrates Virginia’s commitment to economic growth and enhancing job opportunities for its citizens.

Testimonials

“I have had the opportunity to work with the folks from Workforce Services on several occasions. I have always found them to be very professional yet very helpful and responsive to Virginia’s growing business needs. I assure you that the Workforce Services proposal, along with other state and local incentives, was very important in Wytheville Technologies’ decision to expand in Virginia rather than moving to another state.”
- Larry R. Corvin, Manager, Finance & Human Resources, Wytheville Technologies, Inc.

“Workforce Services has and continues to help us attract and retain the best-qualified employees. As a fiscally-conservative taxpayer who abhors waste, I can say without reservation that this is a very good use of state funds and proves that Virginia is serious about attracting and retaining manufacturing business.”
- Chip Dollins, Vice President of Operations, Service Center Metals

“The Workforce Services program has enabled SAIC to invest more resources in Virginia to find and keep the technical talent that is key to our business. We greatly value this private/public partnership.”
- Sean Sullivan, Deputy Director for Human Resources, SAIC

“I have been amazed to find how easy it is to get going, how easy it is to get help, and how easy it is to get reimbursed. I was skeptical, anticipating bureaucracy and red-tape. I have seen neither. We love it.”
- Kelly Woolwine, President, Atlantic Credit and Finance, Inc.

“We have found Virginia’s Workforce Services program’s personnel and attitudes excellent to work with. We had a large retraining requirement here, with ‘Lean Manufacturing’ and implementation of a new business practices software system. We could not have provided all the training if it were not for the availability and accessibility of training funds from the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
- Edward Zamer, VP - Human Resources, Hubbell Lighting, Inc.

“We would recommend this program to all eligible employers. It combines direct economic cost reimbursement, in addition to training and other administrative services, without requiring so much time and effort that the benefits aren’t worth the effort needed to receive them, as has been the case with many previous state or federal programs in my past experience.”
- Trevor “Pat” Roe, Director of Human Resources, Trinity Packaging Corp.

“The interest the Workforce Services program takes in supporting current and new businesses and their help making businesses more competitive speaks well of the partnership between the government and private sector. This kind of partnership will be of significant value to the success and growth of businesses in Virginia.”
- Ali Khan, Plant Manager, Vinton Plant, Precision Fabrics Group, Inc.

“This program is one of the few government programs that provides real incentives to businesses. There is a total lack of government red tape. The professional staff is a great asset to the program. We are dealing with real world people that understand real world problems.”
- Steven Mand, Human Resources Manager, O’Sullivan Industries

“Virginia’s Workforce Services program has been instrumental in BAE Systems meeting its hiring goals and training needs since the beginning of our relationship in 2001.”
- John Sebra, Senior Director, BAE Systems

“Virginia’s Workforce Services program has helped our company tremendously. The project manager assigned to us directed us to several resources that were able to help us with hiring and training issues that we were not able to accomplish with our present staffing levels. The program offers much more than I expected and is a credit to the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
- Alan Gulash, Hiring/Training Coordinator, DuPont Engineering Polymers

“We are a company with plants located in various parts of the U.S. and overseas. The monies used to subsidize our training needs as we introduce new products and processes were influential in the decision making process of our company as to the location of new business. The plant located in Dublin, VA was slated for closure in 2002; however, it was decided to invest in the plant to address new processes. The training subsidies used to support the introduction of these new processes and products has assisted in helping to retain the existence of this facility and the jobs that are associated with it.”
- David Mitchell, Plant Manager, Trim Systems

“We found Virginia’s Workforce Services program to be very helpful to our organization at a time when we were experiencing a major computer operating system conversion in order to remain competitive on a global scale. Thanks for your help and assistance.”
- Allen Morgan, Manager - Employee Development, Rowe Furniture, Inc.

“Virginia’s Workforce Services program is excellent. It has allowed us to do some things in the training area that we might not have had funds for otherwise. The staff has always been very helpful and responsive, and their knowledge and assistance makes the entire process employer friendly.”
- Peggy Matthews, Human Resources Administrator, Oceaneering - Marine Service
