CAPITAL RESOURCES DIRECTORY

Introduction

The Virginia Capital Resources Directory is published by the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. There are over 70 financing programs listed in this directory, which are administered by various federal, state, and local organizations. The programs cover every phase of business financing from microloan funds for start-up businesses to industrial development bonds for major industrial facilities. The directory is designed to be a comprehensive source of information on government-sponsored programs available to businesses across Virginia, and should serve as an excellent tool to aid economic development professionals, bankers, financial advisors, and business managers in their search for funding.

  • Access to capital continues to be a serious issue for most businesses. Growth and expansion require additional capital that a business may not have and, therefore, must seek from outside sources, typically debt financing through a commercial bank. Many of the government-sponsored programs highlighted in the directory are structured to reduce the lending risk for a bank, or in some way stimulate commercial lending activity. Collectively, the programs represent an effort to ensure that Virginia businesses have access to the capital needed to remain competitive in a rapidly changing, and increasingly global marketplace.
